Capone

Capone was Josh Tranks sink or swim film, and it is easily his best yet his most cluttered. A Shinning version of a crime film with Tom Hardy chewing the scenery, it is as bonkers as it sounds. It is a boring yet compelling film, bonkers yet muddled. If Trank makes more films like this then i salute him, i just hope he gets a tighter script.

Becky

The eye for an eye match last week has nothing on a scene in Becky, no not Lynch but it does star Kurgan. This is a visceral survival film, Lulu Wilson steals the show as a girl going all Home Alone on a bunch of Nazis led by Kevin James. Great acting, clever set ups and tons of gore. This flick is doing well at Drive Ins and it is is a perfect drive in movie!

The Old Guard

I have not read the comic of The Old Guard but now i really want to. This is a kick ass flick with stylish action, touching moments and Charlize Theron being a badass as usual. This is a the "men on a mission flick" that Michael Bay wishes he could have made last year. It treats Muslims, gays, and women with respect and without stereotypes all while doing action scenes that you can sink your teeth into.

Warrior Nun

Warrior Nun is a fast paced show. I assumed it would be very CW/teen soapy but this has quite a bit of gore in it, gore humor, babes, a take down of Catholic beliefs, and a cluttered plot. The plot has many holes, some i nitpicked while watching but quickly moved on from them. The show has fun characters, some really bad ass moments and good quirk. I really hope we get a second season, but despite the budget it feels like a fly by night Netflix series.

Eurovision

Eurovision, a collaboration Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams and David Dobkin, who previously worked together on  Wedding Crashers is a film with a few laughs. Those laughs however, while hilarious, are far and few between. The script needed some work, it really feels like a Ferrell film from the mid to late 00s. Ferrell and McAdams have chemistry and deliver some great lines but it feels very mundane. The best aspect was Dan Stevens, the dude continues to knock it out.

Palm Springs

Palm Springs might be the best thing Andy Samberg has done since Dear Sister. This is a funny, weird and cute little flick with alot of heart and one that knows how to be serious when needed. The laughs are plentiful and the story has its quirks, it oozes charm and is carried by great chemistry. I love tales about time loops  and this was one of the more refreshing takes, it has smarts but doesn't take itself too seriously.

Snowpiercer

Bong Joon Ho's Snowpiercer is one of my favorite films of the past decade and when a TV series was announced i was iffy. I felt that it was unneeded but like many other sequel series or remake series(Cobra Kai, High Fidelity)this here lives up to the predecessor. The pilot was awesome but as the show goes on and characters are developed the show keeps getting better. I didn't know how they'd top last weeks edition of blood and mayhem but the two hour finale did just that. Angles were tied up, season 2 was planted and it left you wanting more. I still prefer the film but this is one of the years best.
