Spider Noir

 

When Into the Spiderverse came out in 2018 I loved it, and Nic Cage stole the show as Spider Man noir. Now we have the live action Amazon series, and it is wonderful. I love most Marvel and DC films but I will admit many are copy and paste, cookie cutter films, here we get a fresh take. Ben Reilly is a character that is not squeaky clean, in fact he is kinda dirty but cmon, it's noir so of course he is. His friends bribe and head to skid row, the villains chew the scenery. The action is full on pulp, the camera angles and lighting are gorgeous. This feels at home with Batman 89 and Sin City with the aesthetic and I want more of it. 

Evil Dead Burn

 Evil Dead is one of my favorite franchises. My favorite of which is The Evil Dead, the og. It is more pure horror and I love the low budget nature. I also love the sequels, I enjoyed Rise. Now with me preferring a more horror tone, Burn has to be something I loved right? Well I liked it, it's well crafted but it lacks fun. The original while more horror and serious still had an aura of fun to it. This here was brutal for brutal sake, very edge lord at times. Now the gore is impressive and there are some great kills, it just felt generic. Perhaps if it wasn't an Evil Dead film I might have dug it more. Alas the curse of a horror franchise. Oh well, bring on more of em.....just don't over saturate the market.

Return to Silent Hill

 I am not a massive fan of the Silent Hill game series. I appreciate it but it has never been one for me to dive into. I enjoy it but i dig the look more than the game, I feel that way about the movies too. I dug both of the other Silent Hill films, they are far from perfect, but they have a nightmarish vibe to them, Return to Silent Hill is no different. It too has a great aesthetic and look but the plot is everywhere, but to be honest i kind of liked it that way, it made things a bit more disorienting and added to the overall vibe.
