We Have a Ghost

There is alot of hate coming in for We Have A Ghost, and yes it is flawed and probably the most ill logical of all of Christopher Landon's films....and he did Happy Death Day 2U, but like the rest of Landon's films, it is a hell of alot of fun. It's a tad long and could use some trimming here & there but it is packed with heart.

Speak No Evil

*Was supposed to be published September 2022*

Speak No Evil is one of the better Shudder titles in recent months and it feels beyond Shudder. This could have been a IFC Midnight release. Even then though it would have had the "elevated horror" backlash, and honestly i wouldn't blame it from happening. It is well made but nothing special, a tad tedious at times but i still am glad Shudder is putting out good content again.

The Nine Lives of Vince McMahon

*Was supposed to be published in December 2022*

The Nine Lives of Vince McMahon doesn't cover any new ground but it is told in an interesting way that still feels captivating. It is essentially an extended Dark Side of the Ring. It shows the brilliance and the seedy side of Vince. As shitty as he is and as much as he killed his own product, i still respect him for giving me my life's favorite obsession. With that said, i hope he does not ever return to power in WWE. Creative will die, and the respect for the promotion brining back someone with this reputation will be non existent.

Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story

*Was supposed to be published in September 2022*

Evan Peters is always amazing, but him stripping down his charisma to play Jeffery Dahmer might be his best performance. After years of tedious and illogical series, Ryan Murphy has finally created his best crafted series. The rest of the cast is solid, Gregg Araki gets to direct, plus Nick Cave does the music. This is a perfect recipe! My uncles were all fascinated by the Dahmer case and were always reading various books and watching docs/news pieces on him so i was quite familiar with these killings & the case. The pilot was a tough watch as it basically nailed everything, it forces you to feel the suspense. This is not a gory show, this is a suspenseful show, it is a character study and shows how fucked up the human psyche is and how deranged life itself can be.

Quantumania

Quantumania may have a cluttered script that feels choppy and has some plot holes but this is a hell of alot of fun. Second lowest reviewed but fuck it, unlike most films in the saga is doesn't look bland, there are alot of visuals. Jonathan Majors is awesome as Kang, and for the first time in a while the stingers feel important. Like most films in the MCU the humor fails and derails the story but i'm used to that by now. At times this reminded me of ambitious & campy sci fi from the 80s and based on the trailer that is all i wanted. I do wish they had pulled the trigger on something at the end but i get the set up was needed for the bigger picture.

Blood & Honey

Blood & Honey sounded like crap and the trailer looked like crap but i was interested in the concept. Winnie the Pooh is in the public domain so someone decided to make a horror film, i admire that. What could have been an SNL skit or a fake trailer instead was a film with blood and boobs.....well one set of boobs and some pretty crappy looking blood & gore. The acting is terrible, the film has terrible production from lighting to camerawork. It wasn't tongue in cheek, there was no camp or one liners, instead it was a dull horror film that missed the mark.

Attachment

Attachment starts off as a sweet & quirky rom com but quickly becomes a slow burn horror film filled with paranoia. Who do you trust? Who is lying? Then there are several twists. And it had me intrigued, that is until the real horror began. Once the demon was out of the shadows this became a bore. The final scene is quite sweet i will admit but this felt like it could have lost 30 minutes.

Skinamarink

I respect ambitious filmmaking, i respect experimental filmmaking, i respect low budget filmmaking, i respect pretentious filmmaking.....Skinamarink is all of the above and i respect it......the film however it a chore. This is boring as fuck. 12 minutes of just shots, then we get some dialogue, and it stays that way for an hour.....only it goes back to being dialogueless.  Then it feels as if something is about to happen....and then it doesn't. This film is a waste of time but fuck do i respect it for being a waste!

Knock At the Cabin

Knock at the Cabin is M Night Shyamalan's best film since Split. If you have only seen the first trailer, or no trailer at all, go in blind. Some TV spots give away a bit of the mystique, it's best to let this unravel as it progresses. From the moment the old school title cards hit along with the great score it is a gripping and tight story that moves hella fast. Great acting, lots of tension and some shocking moments definitely rebounded M Night from Old.
