Hellbender is a beautiful yet uneven film. It looks stunning visually, has a great atmosphere and is weird as fuck, all great things, the problem is the tone is everywhere. Alot of threads are not fully pulled and the pacing is totally off. It is as if they didn't know what type of film they were giving us, and i say they literally with the film having three directors. I admire alot of this but so much was also messy, chaotically messy, a beautiful disaster. It honesty is not really that much of a disaster, just more or less pretentious video art. I dug it but merely on the artistic beauty.

Studio 666
Take the celebs guest stars of Scooby Doo, subtract Scooby and add a shit ton and blood & gore and that is essentially Studio 666. The Foo Fighters movie is dumb fun, super gory and fast paced but it does have some flat jokes, questionable acting and dialogue but i still had a good time with it. It was atmospheric and gave some great kills. In this day & age people want so much more out of horror but this gave me what i wanted.

Murderville
Murderville is one of the funniest sitcoms out there. In an age where drama, sci fi & horror shows can be overly comedic and when sitcoms can be overly dramatic, it is refreshing to have a sitcom be a sitcom. Not just a regular sitcom but an ingenious concept of improv. Every episode Will Arnett plays a Detective solving a case, but each episode has a different guest star, said guest has no script and must improvise their dialogue as well as guess the correct murder suspect.

Catwoman Hunted
Catwoman Hunted is probably the best DC Animated film since Soul of the Dragon. From the opening credits on this knows what type of flick it is, pure pulp. Part heist, part mech tech, all action with great characters, done as an anime it feels different and interesting,

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the 48 years later sequel to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is definitely not the 2018 Halloween. The first act is pretty bad and is full of annoying characters, the middle act gives some good kills but that is not enough. The final act is super contrived and the "fan service" feels uninspired. There is a pointless stinger for a pointless film. Good kills and gore but continues the tradition of the franchise being crap. Not as bad as the last three but just as big of a waste of time.

Peacemaker
The idea of Peacemaker as a series had me on the fence. John Cena was great in The Suicide Squad but did he need a spin off? Especially how the movie ended? Well fuck yes he did! Peacemaker is one of the funniest & bloodiest shows on TV. It is in your face & raucous yet endearing & heartfelt. Every actor gets a chance to shine as does all of their respective characters, hell the opening credits alone prove that. This is James Gunn taking the DCEU and truly making it his own thing. This is him adding Troma into the DC Universe. It is full of love for horror, sci fi & metal, and covered in comic goodness without pretending to be high art, it is just a pure unadulterated fun time that knows when to be serious and have a heart to heart and when to crack a one liner. The kills are beautiful, and in 8 episodes we get plenty of them, on top of a super tight story that is thankfully told in 8 episodes. Since WB is moving away from Snyder, i'd love if Gunn became the new executive producer of the universe, cause this feel unlike anything else in DC. I can not wait for season 2, this is probably my favorite live action comic book series since Batman 66.
They Live in the Grey
They Live in the Grey is a fresh twist on supernatural films. A clairvoyant social worker investigates child endangerment but finds herself in the realm of a spirit. It is hard to discuss this without spoilers but the twists make it worth while, the film itself is a bit overly long(over 2 hours) but it is finely crafted. Just needed some trimming.

Death on the Nile
I love Murder on the Orient Express so i was stoked to see more of Detective Poirot. Death on the Nile has a similar formula, ensemble cast, just swap a train for a boat. The cast is solid and it has a tight script but it just takes forever for it to get going. Once the murder happens the film really finds it's groove. I always dig whodunits, it is not on the level of Orient Express but i'm still down for more cases involving Poirot.

Kimi
Holy hell, Steven Soderbergh knows how to induce anxiety. Much like he did with Unsane he has crafted a ball of tension, in terms of characters mental anguish, thematic turmoil, and the overall situations that drive the film. I love low key Soderbergh as much as i love big budget Soderbergh. When he does films like this, it harkens back to what fueled indie cinema in the 80s & 90s. He is now two for two with his HBO Max films after No Sudden Move, but this is possibly my favorite film of his since Oceans Eleven.

All the Moons
All the Moons is a super slow burn, a slow burn that almost shows too much. It is a bit confusing with the tone and the overall presentation but it looks great. The creature/spirit is effective but if it had a little bit of trimming/better pacing then the ending would have meant more. It build and build showing us glimpses but the final 10 minutes is a work of beauty and is masterful. I loved the destination just not the journey.

The Book of Boba Fett
The Book of Boba Fett started off interesting, almost feeling A24 at times. While it was solid it just didn't have the spark....until the final three episodes. Those final three with the added characters took the series from solid to great. The character dynamics meshed more, the action was great and the fan service did the job. The finale was brilliant SW and set up the future of their TV endeavors.

Slapface
Slapface is a tough watch. It has a great message about bullying but it is so damn bleak and in your face. Excellently crafted but disturbing and unnerving. Part coming of age story of two brothers and their relationships with their girlfriends, one of which is also the bully, and part supernatural revenge horror. It's not an anti bully film i would tell people they can't miss, but watching it will make the point be slapped in their face.

Jackass Forever
Some of my biggest influences are Jackass, Chris Pontius especially was my guy. Part three made me tear up as the finale but having them partially all return for Forever was amazing, this is a gift! Much like all Jackass movies, you don't want it to end, it is like a vacation, and the reactions from others watching this is always magic. The new cast is welcome and if they wind up spinning off into their own new generation then i welcome it.
