Hellfest

It's funny, sometimes you bond with people over horror films, and sometimes a dumb horror film can be the swan song before they move. Not saying this is shitty, it's a blast, it is better than most modern slashers and most haunted attraction flicks. I think  Fun House Massacre was a blast, and this is on par with it. A group of friends go to a haunted house, and are killed off one by one, no boobs but plenty of gore, and good looking gore at that! Took me a couple of days to post this, my buddy moved and focused on him on Thursday night, then worked a fundraiser last night and i've been catching up on ROH & MLW today, but alas, it is here, it is fun, go enjoy, don't bash it cause guess what, if you hate this, you probably hate most slasher flicks.

The House With a Clock in its Walls

I was a huge Eli Roth fanboy about a decade ago, however i ranked his films in the order they came out, until this year. Not only was Death Wish more enjoyable than Green Inferno and Knock Knock but The House With a Clock In Its Walls is honestly his best work since Hostel 2. It's a very Halloweeny flick and is full of nods to horror films of the past. He hyped Green Inferno so much and took too long with it, that folks lost interest and it went under the radar, Knock Knock felt very straight to video, Death Wish was a paycheck, hopefully this film gives him the leverage he needs.

A Simple Favor

Let my start off by saying that i am not a fan of Paul Feig's work in general.his comedy is hit & miss, i will defend Ghostbusters against those that refuse to watch it as it is enjoyable but i still think he himself went about it the wrong way. He fancies himself a female's director and with A Simple Favor he does his best work yet. A 90's erotic thriller by way of a Lifetime film but with a great cast and a witty script. This is a cute, fun, funny & sexy film. It has good twists and has an uneasy vibe early on that doesn't let go til nearly the end.

Mandy

Mandy is slowburn of exploitation wrapped in a psychedelic package. It's Nic Cage unhinged in the last act, a coked up Cage on acid in a bloody rampage.Legit, he does coke, does acid, smokes pot, uses chainsaws, chains, axes, crossbows, knives, steel pipes, and just slaughters a bunch of Jesus freak hippies! It begins slow like when you're feeling the acid taking over, then it goes pure bonkers, like a good trip, followed by a confusing come down period.

The Predator

I grew up loving Predator, the films, comics, games, action figures, i'd battle em with ALIEN, Terminator & Robocop, i've enjoyed all the films except for the Alien vs Predator flicks. The trailers for this looked like complete shit, but i had trust in Shane Black to pull it off, and fuck yes he did! It might be getting trashed but this is way better than Predator 2 and Predators. A rag tag group of likable misfit soldiers with funny as fuck dialogue and non stop action featuring generous amounts of gore, that is what this film is, and i would not want it any other way! This is like a film i would have made as a kid with my mind of a teenager, gore, jokes, gore, action, gore, and plenty of call backs to the original.

Terrifier

What a piece of shit, holy fuck, this is almost like a film you'd ask someone to make that thinks they know horror based on the Walking Dead and going to haunted houses to make a horror flick. Sure, you have a camera, everyone does, everyone thinks they can make a movie these days. This is over saturation, this is the crap that festivals get, and sadly this is getting attention. Fuck the plot, just go for gore, and not even good looking gore, if this is modern exploitation then we are in for a world of hurt.

Searching

Searching is a fun yet uneasy, tense yet fast paced "found footage" film. I couldn't help but be reminded of, Megan Is Missing, and honestly i enjoyed this one more. Drops false hints, gives good twists, even at points where you think something is dumb it has a payoff!

The Nun

As far as recent religious horror films go, the Nun isn't half had. I wasn't expecting much, but i had a good time with this one. Cool little nods to the Conjuring, some cool imagery, all you really need. Still is nothing compared to the first, but none will be. Plus Frenchie pretty much becomes a B grade Ash Williams in it.
