A Banquet

A Banquet is one of if not THE most boring film Shudder has released. The concept is not bad but the acting is wooden, the plot drags ass, and nothing ever really happens. It is a perfect film to watch before bed....the subject maybe not so much but you hardly tell here, but it is perfect cause it makes you want to sleep.

George Carlin's American Dream

George Carlins's American Dream is a two parter and beyond riveting. George Carlin is my favorite stand up of all time. HBO Docs have been killing it, and with Judd Apatow directing, i was stoked. It chronicles his childhood, his early days in comedy, his golden era, his movies & TV shows, his revival and everything in between. The talking heads in this speak with passion & love, and you can tell this is a doc made with heart. Besides the heart, there are ideas, and Carlin's ideas are perfect for today's climate. There is a montage at the end of his rants with various news clips from the past few years and that alone in worth it. If you're a Carlin mark than this is must see!

The Simpsons S33

Season 33 of the Simpsons much like most of the other seasons of the past decade has been excellent. Some episodes were bleak, most were full of heart but the finale packed in some of the best social commentary in recent memory.

Chip N Dale: Rescue Rangers

Chip N Dale: Rescue Rangers is a fucking blast. Tributes to a bygone era of animation while also honoring various forms of animation from years after, both child cartoons & adult. The humor aswell, like most awesome animated, or partially animated, films balances the tone where kids can enjoy it but adults will get a kick out of it. Film jokes galore and a unashamed love of nerdom this is as close as we get to a modern Roger Rabbit. Disney & non Disney properties are all throughout this. It's fun that any fan of the original cartoon should enjoy.

Big Sky S2

Big Sky season 1 left off with us wanting more. Season 2 kicks off a bit lukewarm. From there we suffer through soap opera acting, terrible teen acting, dumb decisions and too many plots & characters to try to increase the episode count. I went about 10 episodes without watching but binged before the finale. THe last 5 or so were quite fun. The finale writes off alot of characters but also sets the tone for season 3.

The Found Footage Phenomenon

The Found Footage Phenomenon covers alot of ground but it only scratches the surface. It has a bit of commentary on how the world has evolved from Cannibal Holocaust to Host but it doesn't feel deep. Docs can be fun but i feel this subgenre either needed a lighter approach or a deeper approach. Like most found footage films this doc is enjoyable but nothing to overly brag about.

Atlanta Season 3

Atlanta Season 3 is worth the four year wait. From one of the darkest & bleakest episodes of any series, to a future driven tackle of political injustice, to a heartfelt yet sad culture clash, to burning down schools, and those are just the episodes that don't follow the main story. The main story hits as hard as ever with the commentary and like previous seasons is surreal as fuck. The finale is a disjointed stream of consciousness that is every bit as beautiful as it is fucked and the stinger is bleak & creepy.

The Sadness

The Sadness is a bit slow to get going which is usually good, and then once it finally picks up it goes for the jugular. There is some awesome moments that happen in the second act, pure horror goodness, but then the third act kicks in. Act three is a bit like the first act and begins to slow down quite a bit. I feel as if the second act could have been a great short or even a take off of The Signal or Train to Bussan but the rest of the film just feels like bland Shudder fare.

The Twin

The Twin on Shudder is one of the worst films i have ever seen in my entire life. From the boring characters to the uninteresting plot, it is just wooden throughout. The horror elements are a snoozefest and the twists feel forced. Visually it looks great but underneath it is empty.

Multiverse of Madness

Multiverse of Madness follows the MCU formula but this edition adds in a new ingredient. This is MCU doing horror, and in the hands of Sam Raimi is kills it. This not only has a great tone but the kills in this are brutal for a PG-13. lots of kills and done in quite innovative ways. This is the most Raimi feeling film in 30 years, some great Evil Dead esque moments and shots mixed in with some cameos is enough to put his touch on the universe. There isn't alot of padding here, it is almost non stop fun & action for 2 hours. Some great new additions to the MCU adds a breath of fresh air and has fun with the endless Multiverses that we could be seeing going forward.

Moon Knight

Moon Knight might be the least MCU entre in the MCU. While it does has glimpses of MCU humor here & there it ultimately plays it more serious & dark while being whimsical and surreal. This is the most heady the MCU has been, and the most violent this side of Netflix. I almost wish this had been on Hulu just to give it that extra edge. It's part Indiana Jones, part Cure For Wellness. Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke & May Calamawy do great jobs here, especially Isaac balancing(pun intended for those that have seen the show) his characters. I love that it really doesn't reference other characters or events in the greater MCU. The stinger perfectly sets up whatever is next for these characters.
