Dispatches From Elsewhere

Dispatches From Elsewhere might be the most insane and surreal 10 straight episodes of any series. This is pure what the fuck story telling, and done to perfection. Tight scripts, crafted cinematography, and excellent acting. The acting itself leads to the finale, a very self indulging and meta dissection of the series that is so meta that is knows how meta and indulgent it is. This is niche, the weirdness could turn some off but if you continued with Lost and Mr. Robot then you can find alot to love in this!

The Midnight Gospel

The Midnight Gospel, like many adult animated shows, is full of smarts, but this might be on a different level. Full of psychobabble, depth, meaning of life, sex, drugs and death, this show is a psychedelic ode to getting lost in ones mind, looking for understanding and coming of age. This is niche beyond belief but the dialogue is great for post viewing discussions and the imagery is gorgeous.  Oh and it is also full of blood and zombies. I would say Rick & Morty fans could dig it but it is alot less accessible than that. If this would have aired in high school it would have been at home on Adult Swim.  This is 23 year old Me's favorite cartoon in some acid laced alternate dimension.

We Summon The Darkness

We Summon The Darkness the follow up from Mark Meyers after My Friend Dahmer is a step up(i haven't seen his previous films) but more importantly it is the follow up screenplay from Alan Trezza, the writer of the criminally underrated Burying the Ex and is another fun  horror flick with Alexandra Daddario. Go in to this blind if possible, as the trailer tries to hide twists but doesn't do a good job, just watch it blind and enjoy. The film has some tones that will speak to today's society with the rich and organized religion. For metal films it would play well with Heavy Trip and Deathgasm. It has a fast pace, good gore and a overly fun horror vibe, i just wish Johnny Knoxville had a bit more screen time.

The Main Event

If the Main Event was in theatres or just released straight to DVD i probably would have passed on it, but since it is on Netflix the wrestling mark in me had to bite. This is not a good film, this is a dumb film, but that's not a bag thing, it's a good thing. This is dumb but entertaining, if you enjoy Ready To Rumble then toss it on some night. If you aren't a wrestling fan this isn't for you....even if you are, well it still may not be, but atleast you'll get a kick out of the cameos in it. There are some factual errors but the production designer did a pretty sweet job with the figures and posters. As mind numbing as this was i wasn't bored.

Superman: Red Son

Superman: Red Son is not the best DC Animated film but it is one of the better Superman animated films. This flick has some big departures from the comic but are welcome some are questionable, but it is a return to form for DC Animation.

Corona Zombies

Full Moon is a company i used to love, but with the rise of everyone else making bare minimum shit, their quality has too gone down. I mainly only follow Puppet Master these days but even their best film had no involvement from Full Moon. So here they pulled a Kung Pow and used existing films, Hell of the Living Dead and Zombies vs Strippers, shot scenes with one actress and a zombie, used news footage and redubbed the two existing films to create a 60 minute waste of time. I'd rather watch redubbed Youtube channels like Bad Lip Readings than this. It had funny moments for sure but ultimately this was pretty dumb, which yes it is the point, but i think it may be more enjoyable if it wasn't about Covid.

Modern Family

Modern Family is a legit modern classic family sitcom. While not as dysfunctional as Ed O'Neil's other family sitcom, Married With Children, this  here shows how families should be. They argue, but they support each other. They are mixed ethnic backgrounds and have gay marriages, this is real life and the situations(generally) and realistic. Sight gags, throwbacks, perfectly timed jokes, this is a sitcoms sitcom but unlike Big Bang Theory this is one you can be proud of. I mainly watched this in syndication but i caught up on Hulu with season 11, thank you for a brilliant run!

Coffee & Kareem

Michael Dowse's Coffee and Kareem may not be the instant classic that Goon was but to be fair none of his post Goon films have hit that level, but C and K while not particularly good, was still fun. Characters can be overly annoying and not ever joke works, a great chunk fall flat but for a dumb Netflix movie it has enough jokes and surprising gore to keep you entertained.
