2011 Most Antipipated Films

I'm sure this list will change

1. The Ward
Come on, it's John Carpenter, so what if the reviews haven't been great, he's my favorite film maker so i'm pumped to see a new film by him!

2. Red State
Kevin Smith doing horror!

3. Harold & Kumar 3
I love this series, and hope that it turns out well!

4. Tree of Life
Malick's latest looks like it might be his best, i'm excited.

5. The Thing prequel
I love Carpenter plus Winstead is in it!

6. Burke & Harre
Landis back to doing horror comedies...what more do you want?

7. Hugo Cabret
Scorsese

8. Cedar Rapids
Looks pretty fucking funny.

9. Wanderlust
Wain is amazing!

10. Your Highness
I love Green's films, i love McBride, i LOVE Portman & i love Zooey & Franco. Plus the story looks badass & hilarious!

11. Paul
Pegg & Frost doing a script without Wright...that's not right....oh hey Mottola is directing, and you got Bateman, Weaver, Wigg & Rogen? Sign me up!

12. Harry Potter
THe first half was brilliant, the second half is it sticks to the book will rock the world!

13. Thor
Best Marvel trailer ever, could it be their best film? We'll see!

14. The Green Lantern
Lantern is my third favorite superhero behind Ghost Rider & Batman, and we know how those films turned out, so will this be a Ghost Rider, or a Batman.....i think neither, but i'm sure it'll be fun.

15. Sucker Punch
Snyder seems to have found his calling in far out fantasy/superhero flicks, the concept is awesome and the cast.....is hot!

16. Chillerama
Adam Green? Joe Lynch? Tim Sullivan? Adam Rifkin? Awesome!

17. A Horrible Way to Die
Looks great, plus AJ Bowen is the shit!

18. Limitless
a film about drugs that enhance your mind? I'm in!

19. The Hangover 2
I just want to go in and see a juvenile, devil may care, fucked up comedy.

Best Film of 2010

I already did my favorites, now it's time for the best

1. Black Swan
it deserves to win almost every award, but it's funny as it doesn't feel awardsy, it feel like an early DePalma film, it feel like an Argento film, but it's shot, scored, directed, acted & written so brilliantly!

2. 127 Hours
Boyles second best, brilliant film, and it shows what you can do with a small cast, or shall we say, one actor on screen for 90% of the film.

3. Enter The Void
Pretentious yes, but so what, it's a brilliant concept and brilliantly made!

4. True Grit
The Coen's do it again, 4 years in a row, they've done great films, and in my opinion, this is their third best, and my third favorite they've made!

5. The Social Network
Fincher doing a drama....and excellently, Andrew Garfield is terrific!

6. Inception
BRILLIANT, fucking brilliant, blockbuster, rarely does a blockbuster get such acclaim, and it deserves it!

7. The Killer Inside me
Much like Black Swan, it doesn't feel awardsy, well neither does Enter The Void, but damnit, Void is brilliant. Anyhow, The Killer Inside Me feels like an exploitation film, but features a powerful performance by Casey Affleck!

8. The Town
Speaking of Affleck, his brother did some good acting, and great directing in this film!

9. The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo/The Girl who Played with Fire
I need to see the third before i make up my mind completely!

10.The Fighter
A near Scorsese esque film!

My Favorite Films of 2010

1.Scott Pilgrim
Possibly my favorite comic book film ever, based off my favorite comic series of all time, it's pure geekdom!

2. Black Swan
Best film i've seen in years. It's a psychological acid trip, an erotic melodrama, trashy Italian cinema, beautifully shot, beautifully scored, brilliantly directed & written, has great performances, i need to see it a third time! I also have to say the top 3 are three of my all time favorite theatre going experiences of all time!

3. Kick Ass
A bloody, swear filled comic book flick, and featuring my second favorite Nic Cage performance outside of Bad Lieutenant.

4. Inception
A brilliant summer blockbuster, just what we truly need. Where as most are CGI filled and becoming 3d, Inception used alot of in camera effects(granted still using CGI in the film) and was truly original, take that Avatar.

5. Enter the Void
Another psychological trip, only different then Swan, a tad pretentious, but fucking brilliant, it's truly a journey of a film.

6. Shutter Island
Both of Leo's two films this year were by master filmmalers, and both in my opinion were very Kubrick esque. Shutter Island is a brilliant mind fuck.

7. Tron Legacy
This is how one should use CGI & 3D.

8. Hot Tub Time Machine
Sure the film's a little choppy here & there but i thought it was hilarious.

9. 127 Hours
Boyle does it again, the master of switching genres, and his second best film, seeing the nerves being pulled even made my squint my eyes.

10. Harry Brown
A brilliant & disturbing piece of cinema that shows how dangerous humans can truly be. Fucking intense.

Film News Roundup 12-15-10

http://www.joblo.com/jon-favreau-gushes-over-magic-kingdom-avoids-iron-man-3-scorn
Another theme park flick....idk, i'd rather see him do another Marvel film, but hey that's just me....on second thought, please atleast write another film like Swingers!

NOW THIS IS THE OZ PROJECT I'M EXCITED FOR! Seriously, there are alot of Oz projects popping up, but this one seems to be the most promising, maybe it's because i'm a sucker for stop motion.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22722 Boy Scouts vs Zombies
Has the zombie sub genre jumped the shark? The shark in question being from Fulci's Zombie! Or is this our new Monster Squad? Time will tell.

Wow that surprisingly looks funny. I checked it out just for Grace, but i actually wound up digging it.

Best looking Marvel trailer there's been!

FINALLY! Holy shit that looks great. the trailer lived up to the hype, i'm sure the film will be amazing!

Film News Roundup 11-17-10

http://aintitcool.com/node/47458 Del Toro, the Hulk!!!!
Bad ass! I'm liking how these great filmmakers are handling show runner duties such as Darabont with Walking Dead.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22455 CLOWN the movie!
Fuck yes! I kind of was hoping Eli would do the project, but just as well, i loved the fake trailer, and am pumped for this!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22451 Paranormal Activity 3
WTF? Is Katie going to be on the run and the "found footage" is from police cameras or some shit?

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22446 Chan Wook English Language film
WOW, geekgasm! He's my favorite filmmaker in asian cinema, i'm highly interested in this one, could take off here like Del Toro!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22445 Friday the 13td Part 2, and in 3d
Well the first remake tried to combine the first 4, so is this one using 2 & 3? Right...right...? Ah, oh well, anyways, back on topic, i'll see a Friday the 13th flick, a fun night seeing a slasher is always good!

http://www.joblo.com/denis-leary-goes-from-new-york-fireman-to-spider-man-cop
I'm really digging this flick so far!

http://www.joblo.com/will-emily-blunt-enter-a-five-year-engagement-with-jason-segel
I think Stroller/Segel is the best thing going in Apatow house since it looks like Rogen has his own film life now.

http://www.joblo.com/sam-kinison-biopic-finally-making-it-to-the-big-screen
Fucking nice!

http://www.joblo.com/seth-rogen-and-evan-goldberg-sign-up-for-neighborhood-watch

Film News Roundup 11-16-10

WOW, at first it was looking lame, then it became all sorts of awesome!

Second trailer that i've seen that starts off slow but really builds up.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22439 Swarm
Hmm, The Ring & Paranormal producers? Not that it always matters who produces what, but i think it'll either be dumbed down, or turned into a fun flick, i'm on the fence on it.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22430 Martyrs
I liked Last Exorcism but fuck, i doubt if we can be as brutal as the original.

http://www.joblo.com/zoe-saldana-is-ready-for-action-in-pics-from-the-besson-produced-columbiana
Awesome

http://www.joblo.com/remake-alert-now-robert-zemeckis-may-be-off-to-see-the-wizard-of-oz
OK, OK< what, what the fuck, a third Oz film in production, at the same time, jesus, and Zemeckis? WHAT THE FUCK, don't ruin Yellow Submarine, and don't touch Oz.

Film News Roundup 11-08-10

http://www.joblo.com/steve-carell-is-the-son-of-a-rockstar-in-imagine
Alot will hate me, but i din't like School of Rock, so i truly hope this isn't a SoR esque film.

http://www.joblo.com/hayden-panettiere-and-nikki-reed-are-into-bret-easton-ellis
This is for my love of Ellis! I hope it works out for him!

http://www.joblo.com/zombieland-writers-prep-cowboy-ninja-viking-for-disney
Never read the comic but sounds interesting.

http://www.joblo.com/oldboy-remake-back-on-and-looking-to-steven-spielberg-matthew-vaughn-and-danny-boyle-as-possible-helmers
Even if it is just a rumor, i must post any Oldboy news, i'm a huge fan of the film, but it's not really adaptable for americans audiences, so Spielberg & Smith shoud be nixed right away. Boyle, good choice, but i don't see him doing it. Same goes for Vaughn.

Film News Roundup 11-7-10

http://www.joblo.com/jeremy-renner-might-put-on-the-patch-as-the-new-snake-plissken

http://www.joblo.com/yep-johnny-depp-and-tim-burton-are-doing-dark-shadows-next-year
Finally, though i hope it's more old school Burton & not his modern self.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/47216 Indiana in 3D
No thanks, if i want to see Indiana Jones, i could've seen it at midnight, classic Lucas.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/47204 TED
That sounds so retardedly awesome!

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/47221 Goodfellas TV
Scorsese.....Nuff' said!

http://www.joblo.com/zach-galifianakis-hangs-with-felt-creatures-in-the-new-muppet-movie
I'm really looking forward to seeing this, as much as i'm the type to like films to remain "cult", this is one of those, i really want to make money, and lots of it!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22186 Machine Man
Fucking awesome! I'd like to see him tackle more genre fare so i'm glad, though i prefer him to do original material, oh well i'm down for this!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22179 Child's Play
Just kill it, like MGM....that hurts me to say so i'm sorry about that, but yeah, i'm not one for remakes, but if they do it, make it fucked up.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22203 Ouiji
Oren Peli anyone?

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22199 A good cause
Not news at all, but i think all us bloggers can relate to being a wee lad and being a fan of the fantastic.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22187 THRILLER
I'm split on this, part of me thinks it shouldn't be touched, but if they expand it to do other Jackson songs then i may get behind it!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22166
As i've said, i have a hard on for Buried so i'll see this.

BTW the Zombie Walk from this weekend didn';t suck it just was not the best, i might blog about it, and The Killer Inside Me rocked.

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

My Birthday Blog

RED was very enjoyable, and i may have enjoyed it more than the Expendables

http://www.joblo.com/marveldisney-gives-us-tron-superheroes
Yeah it's not news but it's fucking awesome!

http://www.joblo.com/sequel-to-piranha-3d-already-has-feast-writers-and-director
I'm sure the camp and over the top gore will be up in this one, i'm looking forward to it!

I hear James Franco & Anne Hathaway want in the new ALIEn, i say give it to them, you know what i don't want, Mark Wahlberg as the Crow.

http://www.joblo.com/after-a-50-million-opening-is-a-jackass-4-on-the-way
I'm a HUGE Jackass fan, but i usually don't report on it here as it's not what i consider a film, but if you're gonna do a fourth, then make a fourth, put 3.5 just on dvd. The end credits of Jackass 3D were kind of sad by the way.

AWESOMENESS

I've been a huge fan of Green's online videos for some time, as usual good stuff!

http://aintitcool.com/node/47114
Nicotero's short!
Very awesome! I'd love to see him venture into a feature!

BTW wtf is with the scream awards? I'm not hating on it, but as usual, it seems forced.

Film News Roundup 10-18-10

Hangover 2
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/47078
Meh, i guess this is our Tyson.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22079
RHPS Remake
Fuck this, i was looking forward to Glee's tribute show, but fuck this, fuck this royally, you want to see a horror musical then check out Suck, tons of fun, very campy, but fuck this.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22068 Hellraiser remake
So a sequel which will be shit or remake aimed at teens? Which is the lesser of two evils? How about the budget for the remake but aimed at a sequel, but let's keep Heard!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22061 Pride & Prejudice & Zombies
I'm liking the possible casting!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/22081 Gialo
I'm netflixing the dvd, but man, how the mighty have fallen, poor Argento, i'm a huge fan of Brody, so it sucks that this is happening but eh, it's not really news, just something i felt needed to be shown.

Hmm, i like iT but it leaves alot to be desired, hopefully the next trailer will deliver the goods.

Film News Roundup 10-16-10

http://aintitcool.com/node/47051 Paul Verhoeven's next
Eh, i don't know, i just hope Verhoeven goes all out as he used to in the past.

http://www.joblo.com/robert-de-niro-and-sigourney-weaver-to-join-buried-directors-next-film-entitled-red-lights
After seeing Buried, i'm officially pumped.

http://www.joblo.com/abc-developing-the-incredible-hulk-for-primetime-tv-plus-news-on-other-potential-small-screen-marvel-adaptations
If it's as fun as the old Hulk, i'll watch, plus Luke Cage!! And a possible Punisher pat cable show?! This on top on The Lizard is pretty cool for marvel.....oh by the way Batman films in april and the cast is coming together, take that Marvel!

Wow, that looks really good, modern Van Sant is hit & miss, but i dig the trailer.

Friday, October 15, 2010

Buried

HOLY shit, that was intense! I liked Frozen, but Buried was alot better in my opinion, it built the suspense better, made you feel claustrophobic, and made you care about the character! Ryan Reynolds, while he's no Sam Rockwell was stellar in the film, fucking fantastic!

Monday, October 11, 2010

Film News Roundup 10-11-10

http://www.joblo.com/zoolander-2-script-done-with-roles-for-will-ferrell-and-jonah-hill
FUCK YES!

http://www.joblo.com/danny-boyle-may-finally-get-around-to-28-months-later
Heard it before but i'm glad post Slumdog Boyle is still thinking about them damn dirty apes and their rage!

Also since i've been shooting, i haven't been doing reviews it seems, so i dug After Life, thought 2001 Maniacs 2 was retarded yet fun, The Town is Excellent, but the Social Network rules the world! Seriously it's great.

Film News Roundup 10-05-10

http://www.joblo.com/pride-and-prejudice-and-zombies-and-no-director-as-david-o-russell-departs
While O'Russell is a better talent perhaps this film is suited for a one James Gunn!

http://www.joblo.com/surprise-emma-stone-cast-in-spider-man-as-gwen-stacy-not-mary-jane
I love redheads, but Gwen Stacy is more classic Spider Man than MJ is, sure Watson has her fame, but Gwen, she has some classic stories under her belt. Digging the casting too!

http://www.joblo.com/director-found-zack-snyder-will-be-the-one-to-helm-superman
While i'm indifferent to Dawn of the Dead, mainly from my love of Romero's, it's a decent remake that attempted to be different, i hated 300, loved Watchmen, have not seen Legends of the Guardian, and am pumped up to see Sucker Punch, also Nolan being behind this is a good sign, so Nolan & Snyder teaming up! Fuck yes!

Landis is back motha fuckas!

Film News Roundup 9-30-10

http://www.joblo.com/what-is-wes-anderson-getting-ready-to-shoot-in-2011
Not much for news but it's Anderson, so i'll see anything he puts on screen.

http://www.joblo.com/robert-zemeckis-to-return-to-the-world-of-live-action-films
He on the otherhand does nothing for me....atleast these days, maybe, just maybe, this flick can turn it around.

http://www.joblo.com/james-franco-decides-to-write-direct-and-star-in-the-adderall-diaries
Franco is the man right now, his last few films were great & his next few looks great or sound great.

http://www.joblo.com/steve-carell-gets-ready-to-sing-for-his-next-comedy
With Carell & Daley, i'm surprised Apatow isn't involved.

http://www.joblo.com/a-look-at-the-black-dynamite-animated-series-plus-more-stuff
I literally am ecstatic with glee right now, this is fucking awesome!

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/46777 Raimi TV shows

Film News Roundup 9-28-10

http://www.joblo.com/former-lost-dreamboat-josh-holloway-joins-mission-impossible-4
Too bad Abrams wasn't directing it!

http://www.joblo.com/could-natalie-portman-play-lois-lane-in-superman
Near perfect casting! If it comes true.

http://www.joblo.com/jonathan-levine-decides-to-take-on-helming-duties-for-little-girl-lost
With Mandy Lane & The Wackness, Levine has done two very damn good small films, i'm anticipating the rest of his work!

More of a Blair Witch feel than most found footage films.

Film News Roundup 9-27-10

http://aintitcool.com/node/46742 Trollhunters
Del Toro doing a family picture eh? As long as it's more Boyle than Rodriguez, by that i mean not embarrassing for adults.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/21810 Laid to Rest 2
THe story of the first wasn't the best but it was fun and had some decent kills, so i'll check out a sequel.

Nice teaser, very nice!

HOLY SHIT! That, THAT looks great!

Film News Roundup 9-22-10

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/46642 Snow White
Vey nice, he may actually pull off a decent dark version!

http://aintitcool.com/node/46641 Darling Companion
Right on, i always wished he had done more directorial work!

http://aintitcool.com/node/46655 Goodfellas
It seems i post more tv stuff every week, this is cool though, cause i love the film, plus Henry Hill lived not that far away from where i live now.

http://aintitcool.com/node/46650 JJ, Emerson & O'Quinn!!!
See, more tv, i love these two actors, especially together, and with Abrams involved, holy Lost boner Batman!

http://www.joblo.com/will-david-o-russell-be-going-under-cover-with-jim-carrey
Nice, i love Carrey's darker pieces, which with O'Russell involved i'm sure it will be, even though Huckabees wasn't too dark. I just saw I Love You Phillip Morris, i fucking loved it!

http://www.joblo.com/john-goodman-is-the-latest-to-join-kevin-smiths-religious-horror-film-red-state
Smith originally wanted a small no name cast, but here we are with Goodman, Parks and that fucking kid from Jennifer's Body.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/21772 Lords of Salem
So Zombie is finally doing original horror again...i'm excited but fuck me, i'vr become emersed in the brilliance of Ti West in recent months, and as far as people doing homage horror, West has him beat.

Film News Round Up 9-19-10

http://www.joblo.com/japan-is-making-their-own-paranormal-activity-sequel
This is like right out of the 80's when foreign distributors would do in name only sequels, just to tie em in. I dig it.

http://www.joblo.com/mark-millar-making-directorial-debut-with-miracle-park
I love that Millar is making a film but this found footage thing is going to get tiresome fast.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/46566 Freddy Mercury
Good for Cohen, stretching his limits.

Might be worth a rent...that is all.

People can rag on Bale for being a dick, and sure he does more mainstream films these days, but fuck, the guy still does work on his body, fucker will have problems in the later years gaining & losing weight the way he does.

Wasn't thrilled with the plot but it looks like a fun flick.

LOOKS AMAZING!

I'm excited for anything with AJ Bowen!

http://www.joblo.com/sad-keanu-to-star-in-indie-drama-generation-um
So Keanu is pretending to be sad in a film as opposed to to just acting and seeming sad.

Machete...plus a mini review of Burning Bright...plus a fun surprise in Centuion

So i rented Burning Bright the other night, i'm not devote a whole post to it i just wanna say this, it is what it is, it's about siblings trapped in a house with a tiger while a dangerous storm is going on outside, there's another character who has villainous tendencies but is way under developed to care about, the whole film is a jumbled mess.

Then there is Machete, a film that i enjoyed but i was disappointed by. You all know the amazing fake trailer, the film follows Machete(Danny Trejo) while he SET UP, DOUBLE CROSSED and left in a house fire by Torrez(Steven Seagal). We pick up years later where he is a day laborer, and an illegal immigrant, he gets and offer from Booth(Jeff Fahey) to assassinate the George Bush esque Senator McLaughlin(Robert DeNiro), only to be SET UP, DOUBLE CROSSED & LEFT FOR DEAD. He winds up in a hospital ran by the Network, a group to help spanish papis & mamacitas, ran by Luz(Michelle Rodriguez).Helping her are nurses played by the Crazy Babysitter Twins & Dr. Felix from Planet Terror! He escapes and runs into an immigration agent, Sartana(Jessica Alba) who at first wants to take him in, but decides he was wronged and needs to help him. Together with the Network they face off against Lt. Von Jackson(Don Johnson) and his "vigilantes". Peopel turn on each other and guts are spilled butthe first hour or so wasn't the film i wanted, it felt more like Desperado, which i'm a big fan of, i just wanted it different, the last half hour is pure Tromaish bliss.

I also saw Centurion, and i'm not a big fan of Neil Marshalls other films, i think the Decent was his best but i found it a tad overrated. Centurion, is actually a pretty fun yet very messy film. The editing could've been alot better and it feels like it could've used a trim but it was fun, the first 10 minutes is really fun, but then the next half hour is super slow. It picks up though with the group of Roman soldiers on the run Warriors style from a wicked chick, Etain(Olga Kurylenko) who seeks revenge for what romans did to her family years earlier. It's a sword & sandals flick but with fuck bombs & dick jokes.

The Last Exorcism

I know alot of folks personally who have hated this film, i myself really dug it. it played with conventions.

A reverend & exorcist Cotton(Patrick Fabian) is a very good showman, he is also an athiest, and one who scams people out of their money. He invites a documentary crew to follow him on his "last exorcism", to show how he sets up shaking beds, smoke, and bubbling water. THe possessed girl in question is Nell (Ashley Bell), who may or may not be possessed, she certainly is fucked in the head, as she slashes her brother's, Caleb(Caleb Landry Jones) face and appears to kill the livestock, is all this mental, or perhaps a repressed emotion from abuse? It's all up to interpretation really, but i will say that the final scene seems inspired by House of the Devil.

Film News Round Up 8-25-10

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/46253 David Goyer's HEAVEN'S SHADOW
Goyer is an underrated writer in my opinion, even if he helped with the Dark Knight, and this is a cool concept, i'm sick of shitty alien films, hopefully Goyer will be able to pack a punch!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/21420 Ghost Rider 2
I love me some Dracula but can we get some Morbius thrown in here at some point in a Marvel flick?

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/21421 My Name Is Bruce 2
Badass! Geekass! Nerdass! Sweetass! Gimme some sugar baby, sure My Name is Bruce isn't a classic by any means, but it was alot of fun, but hearing it might be a whose who of horror icons is enough for me!

I love real life adventure flicks liek this & Into the Wild, and i love Danny Boyle, as a filmmaker i love reflecting on a directors past, as they did at the beginning of this trailer, similar to the Coens & A Serious Man's trailer. As for the film itself, i think it looks great.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/46243 Piranha "4"
I gotta say, i had a blast with the Aja version, sex & violence, what more can you ask for in a gore flick? Elizabeth Shue...that's it, plus cameos galore, including a favorite of mine in Dreyfus's song at the beginning! Bring on a sequel!

From Midnight With Love: 70's Cult Films

http://frommidnight.blogspot.com/ Fellow MIDWEST! blogger, The Mike from the awesome From Midnight With Love wants us to come up with our list of essential films from the 70's, my favorite decade, this may be hard to get down to 5, but damn it to hell, here are mine.

Also note, to some these may not be "cult" films, but hey the masses don't really watch em, so...yeah, to me they are!

Rocky Horror Picture Show
My favorite film of all time, tied with Clerks that is, the film i've seen in theatres more than any other film, my commitment to the part of Frank N Furter even led to me getting a tattoo of his boss/heart tattoo. It's a B Movies fans wet dream, full of references to the past, plus it unfold the convention of B movies in such a glorious & humorous way.

Dawn of the Dead

In my opinion, the greatest horror film made, so brilliant, Romero's true masterpiece, he took Night of the Living Dead to the next level in this one, very funny & some of the best gore in film history. I lvoe it so much i went to the Monroeville Mall just to see the locations.

Halloween
The best slasher of all time, and my favorite film by my favorite filmmaker. People can say what they want about the slasher sub genre, but Halloween is in a league of its own.

Taxi Driver
It may not be Scorsese's best film, to me that honor goes to Goodfellas, maybe Shutter Island or the Departed, but my favorite film of his is Taxi Driver. Such a brilliant film, perfectly shot, the colors, the tone, it perfectly captured the way Vietnam warped minds, it feels like a studio version of an exploitation film.

Phantasm
To me it's the beginning of the best horror series ever(well toss up with this and Evil Dead). This and Evil Dead together are actually apart of my dream project as a screen writer. I've met Reggie Banister and he is the coolest mother fucker there is!

Nice

http://www.joblo.com/tim-burton-reunites-with-his-ed-wood-screenwriters-for-the-addams-family-and-big-eyes
The original Adam's Family felt Burton esque, and Burton has been hit & miss recently, but with the Ed Wood team, i say it's in good hands.

http://www.joblo.com/john-woo-wants-liam-neeson-to-fly-unfriendly-skies-in-his-wwii-imax-epic-flying-tigers
Liam can do award winning serious films, then do genre films & blockbusters at the same time. I'd like to see Woo do old school flicks again, but atleast he's got projects rolling again.

http://www.joblo.com/new-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-movie-gets-writers
Ubber pumped for this one, i love the Turtles cartoons but i'd love for a gritty comic version to appear on the big screen atleast once!

Expendables/A Team

Last Friday i saw the Expendables, which stars a whose who of action stars going overseas to overtake corruption & save the girl. The next day i finally saw the A Team, with soem non action stars trying to clear their name. One is a hard R film, the other is glossy PG 13, both are over the top, but one featured plenty of gore and the other disappointed at the box office. This is the year for men on a mission films, last year we had GI Joe, which fucking sucked, seriously it sucked harder than a guy at a glory hole. Then we had Inglorious Basterds, which wasn't quite a man on a mission film, but i still loved, it was classic Tarantino. 2010 however has offered some fun men on a mission films, The Losers was tons of fun, and a cheap(for studios anyhow) DC Comics flick. The A Team to me did what GI Joe wanted to do, be a fun summer blockbuster, now some will say GI Joe was that, but as a GI JOe comic/cartoon/action figure fan, i hated it. The A Team captured the show, while some say it wasn't, to me it felt like a hollywood version of the series, and not a bastardisation(no pun intended) of a beloved series. Which brings us to the Expendables, which is what GI Joe should've been aswell, a special ops team sent on a mission, with jokes & gore, sure GI Joe didn't need the gore, but hey, i'm a gore hound and get a kick out of it. Later this year, RED comes out, which looks like alot of fun, but i'm not that familiar with the comic for which it is based. 2010 is a fun year, with soem good genre fare, especially in the MOM subgenre of action flicks. My favorite of the bunch is the Expendables which my theatre was a geek fueled blast of awesomeness.

http://www.joblo.com/karl-urban-will-be-the-law-in-the-new-judge-dredd-movie

Fuck yes!

So we got a movie about online porn, facebook & viagra, all coming out soon....maybe that should be spelt with a U.

Interesting

I'm not a big fan of Crowe but this looks like a very decent film. Good cast plus Haggis is a talent.

Holy fuck, this flick was shot for supposedly around 15 thousand, makes me feel good to know films can be made on the cheap like this, genre films i mean, and good looking ones at that.

Looks like loads of fun.

OH MY GOD...Holy shit, that looks amazing, i've been excited for this film since i first read about it, even more so now.

This flick i've been weary on, but while i trailer is a tad underwhelming, i still have to say it caught my interest.

Routh is getting more awesome with each project.

http://www.joblo.com/jack-black-to-reteam-with-richard-linklater-on-bernie

Seconds

So one of my favorite book stores/art galleries is Polyester, it just opened a few months ago but is helping bring film to Omaha, good film, great film, the owner has exploitation films lined up, a drive in(fuck yes) and they do roof top showings of classic films such as Cool Hand Luke, Buckaroo Banzai & Cinema Paradiso. Last night they played Seconds, holy fuck, for those who haven't seen it, watch it! I was amazed, shot gloriously, gorgeous black & white, great story, cinematography, everything.

It's about Arthur Hamilton (John Randolph), an older man married to Emily(Frances Reid), but he doesn't seem happy, he then receives a phone call from an old friend of his, Charlie Evans (Murray Hamilton), who tells him to go and seek out this organization, it's very word of mouth, they drug Arthur and tell him about his death, a faked death so he can start a new life, to become a second, he agrees and becomes Tony Wilson(Rock Hudson), and has a whole life in process as an artist. He meets Nora(Salome Jens) and the two become an item, even going to hippie fests making wine, it is all eggs & hashbrowns until Tony gets drunk at a party and starts spilling his guts to everyone. Luckily everyone there are also seconds, however it doesn't go good for him, he wants his old life back, visits his ex wife, finds out she thought he was distant, tries to get a new life again, but is denied when he refuses to sponsor someone, aka do the word of mouth as Charlie did to him. They finally agree but there is a double cross of sorts.

The film has moments you almost feel inspired Martin Scorsese, Darren Aronofsky, and is a product of it's time, yet ahead of it's time at the same time. It has some very psychedelic sces, and a very trippy credit sequence. I loved this film, i need to own it.

Bitten

So Fangoria was giving out dvds at Comic Con, the dvd in question was Bitten, starring Jay Mewes, and it's....it's...oh HI Tommy.

The film is about Jack(Mewes), a paramedic who needs some loving, he hates working the nightshift, and his partner Roger(Richard Fitzpatrick) is always taking shits. One night while walking home he spots a girl, Danika(Erica Cox), all bloodied up laying in the trash, he takes her in and she begins to crash there with him. Danika seems all drugged up, atleast to Roger, who only wants her around for Jack to fuck, which he does, but once Jack's ex arrives, the truth is told, the fangs are out, and death becomes her. Jack initially is freaked out, but begins to bring Danika victims. After a while he begins to lose sleep, and Roger is getting pissed, it's either the job or the girl, but when Danika goes after Roger, Jack gets pissed, locks her up, takes a walk, sees happy couples, goes back and Danika goes after him, Roger attempts to rescue him, but Danika bites Jack. Doesn't really mean anything, he'll just be accused of being a fang banger, but Roger stakes her anyhow.

The film at first i thought was good, five minutes later, i thought it was bad, then it went to so bad it's good, then maybe they made it this mad on purpose, hell they had maraca music between scenes. Tommy Wiseau has said he wants to make a vampire film, this could be it, Jack brings her victims then gets pissed when he sees blood on the floor, the dialogue is shit, but it's an entertaining piece of shit i'll say that.

Only trailer i could find.

Film News Round Up 8-8-10

http://www.joblo.com/viggo-mortensen-goes-back-on-the-road-with-amy-adams
NICE, very nice, i love On The Road, and getting Viggo involved is great news.

http://www.joblo.com/tony-scott-attached-to-direct-adaptation-of-mark-millar-and-steve-mcnivens-nemesis
I'm a fan of Millars work, i much prefer his Wanted comic to the film, but i have yet to read this, Scott is a hit & miss director, not that he's bad, just doesn't always deliver the goods, but as a HUGE True Romance fan, i'm more than willing to overlook lesser films of his.

Puppet Master: Axis of Evil & REC 2

So i recently bought the original Puppet Master and won the newest one, aswell i purchased a bootleg of REC 2. Well here's the thing, they're both pretty much the same as the others in their respective series. Axis of Evil is pretty much every other Puppet Master flick but with World War 2 undertones, which is not a bad thing at all. So what is the point of this? Well it's similar to the rest, which is not a bad thing at all, i just prefer the earlier ones. The real point is REC 2, it is also pretty much like the original, found footage, same building ect, ect, ect...however with REC 2, i much prefer it to the original. REC was great, Quarantine was shot for shot but not as effective, REC 2 starts off kicking ass, and does so for an hour & a half, and the ending is great, brign on REC 3, sure it'll be more of the same, but it atleast has to be continued points(not really in the Back to the Future kind of way).

Hell's Pizza

I've recently have gotten in to chose your own stories in the realm of comics, and there are a few indies that seem interesting coming out soon that i found out about at Comic Con, i just found this on Aint it Cool News, seems awesome so far.

Comic Con, Inception, Mandy Lane, Mutant Girl Squad, Scott Pilgrim & The Kids are Alright

So 2 weeks ago i left for vacation, to the San Diego Comic Con, i'm just a city boy, born a raised in midtown Omaha, i hopped a midnight train going anywhere....and it was relaxing, it almost felt like i was stoned, anyhow i left on a Sunday night/Monday morning around midnight, and got to San Diego on a Wednesday morning around 6 am. after venturing around the city and checking into our hotel, my uncle & I went to go see Inception!

Inception is the story of a ground a mind thiefs who extract ideas, however when one of their marks, Saito(Ken Watanabe) gets the better of them, he makes an offer. The offer is to implant an idea in the head of Robert Fischer(Cillian Murphy), that will cost his fathers business, a competitor of Saitos. SO Dominic(Leonardo DiCaprio) and his team, Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Eames (Tom Hardy) & Yusuf (Dileep Rao), agree to it. They need one person to help them create worlds so Dominic goes to Miles(Michael Caine) who helps him enlist Ariadne (Ellen Page). The group must go through several levels of consciousness, dreaming within dreams and over come Dominics haunted past with his wife(Marion Cotillard) before succeeding in their job...or did they? As the ending leaves questions that could be left for interpretation. Is it the best film of the year that many asre claiming? I still got to go with Shutter Island, is it my favorite film of the year thus far? No, but i'll get to that in a bit.

Then the next day was Comic Con, we arrived at 7 to get in at 9, huge lines, unbelievable, the 4 day event was amazing, i met Edgar Wright, Llyod Kaufman, Adam Green, James GUnn, Darren Bousman, Adam Rifkin, Bill Moseley, Sid Haig, Charles Band, i didn't get pictures with them all as some were greeting/sayign goodbye as they were taking off, others like Sid Haig, wasn't too pleasant. Bill Moseley is a cool mother fucker, he was just chilling right behind me during the Troma panel, Edgar Wright was nice enough to stop for a picture with me while walking the exhibit hall, but Haig refused to do shit unless he saw money. Reggie Bannister one of the coolest cats i've ever met, we spoke for like 15 minutes about Don Coscarelli, Angus Scrimm, Bruce Campbell, my projects, a bunch of stuff. Plus a i shot a promo video with Llyod Kaufman for a local theatre that refuses to have a Troma weekend.

Over the 4 days i received alot of free shit, Scott Pilgrim shirts, pins & wristbands, Expendables shirts, Green Lantern shirts, Sushi Typhoon shirts, I Spit on Your Grave wristbands, free food, free comics, a free Lost pin & book, even got free dvds(Bitten with Jay Mewes from Fangoria, and the newest Puppet Master, by spinning a wheel after purchasing the first).

The panels were cool, went to a Gamera retrospective, Scott Pilgrim in the massive hall h, in which he told people if they had a certain pin that they'd get to see the film that night, i didn't but everyone got to see it the next day, well first come first serve that is. I also attended the awesome Sushi Typhoon panel, and was given a shirt. The next day, was in line for the Walkign Dead for 2 hours before not gettign into it, on Saturday there was a stabbing in Hall H, a line i was in to see Paul, Cowboys & Aliens, Thor, Captain America & Kevin Smith, was in line for 2 hours before not getting in, which was good since i saw Troma instead. The Troma panel was a gift to filmmakers, talked alot about low budget filmmaking, showed soem fine clips & trailers and they all goofed around for an hour(Green, Bousman, Rifkin, Kaufman & Gunn). I went to the last half of the Tommy Wiseua panel(i missed the short film he starred in, but got a mask!), pure awesomenes. Other panels attended was a Lost panel & a Gene Rodenberry panel.

The exhibit hall was great, especially the Walking Dead booth, full of props, speaking of props, there were plenty of film props to go around, the Famous Monsters booth was great, seeing a bunch of new figures was a blast too, funny enough the whole time we were there, we were looking for horror films & underground comics, more so than Marvel or DC. I bought Galaxy of Terror, Combat Shock & a bootleg of Rec 2!

Now there were other free things going on, alot of it outdoors, without even having to own a badge, the outdoor shit was fun as fuck, especially seeing David Hasselhoff singing on a double decker bus, plus the whole area downtown was Comic Con'd out, it was everywhere, oh and the chicks were very nice! There was a Robert Rodriguez after party that we thought we had invites to, however our invites were invites to get the real invites. IT was still cool as it was an outdoor party and we could still see it, including the new trailer, and footage from Machete! But my favorite thing was the free film screenings!

The first night went to a midnight screening of All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, which i might say is the best slasher since Halloween, i loved it. Mandy Lane(Amber Heard) used to eb an outcast along with her friend(Emmet Scrimm) however after Emmet egged a popular kid on to his death, Mandy Lane ditched Emmet to become "popular". She goes to a farm with several kids who get picked off one by one, until it's down to mandy, the killer and the man in charge of the ranch, Garth, there are soem twist & turns but it leads to a satisfying film, my only complaint was learning who the killer was way to early, there should have been some red herrings.

The film to end all films though, my favorite film of the year, based upon my favorite comic book, i waited in line for 4 hours to see, SCOTT PILGRIM! Holy shit was this an experience, Edgar Wright introduced the cast, then the film began, it begins with an 8 Bit Nintendo esque version of the Universal logo, then the film begins, and i don't even know if i can describe it, it rocked my world, as soon as Kim(Alison Pill) shouted WE ARE SEX BOMB-OMB the whole crowd shouted 1 2 3 4! IT was a raucous crowd to say the least, and the opening credits were great! It's about Scott(Michael Cera) who is in a band Sex Bomb-omb with Kim & Steven Stills(always say his full name) played by Mark Webber, along with their biggest fan Young Neil(Johnny Simmons). Scott is dating a high schooler, Knives Chau(Ellen Wong) she's chinese, he then meets Ramona Flowers(Mary Elizabeth Winstead), leaves Knives for her and must defeat her 7 evil ex's, Mathew Pattel(Satya Bhabha), Lucas Less(an always getting better by each film Chris Evans), Todd Ingram(Brandon Routh), Roxy(Cera's Arrested Development co star Mae Whitman), the twins Kyle & Ken,(Shota Saito & Keita Saito) and finally Gideon Graves(Jason motha fuckin Schwartzman). For the most part it follows all 6 graphic novels, again it's for the msot part, just a couple tweaks here & there, but i didn't mind them at all, especially considerign the 6 book was being written at the same time this was.
The cast is great, especially Scott's gay roommate Wallace Wells(Kieran Culkin), and so was Jule Powers(Aubrey Plaza) and Stacey Pilgrim(Anna Kendrick), and so were the minor characters, and the little comic book bubbles, the video games sounds, and the cameo of the Vegan Police! In the comic and the film i still would have chosen Kim over all the chicks, but that's me, but the film was a geektastic event that ended in a huge near 5 minute long standing ovation, Edgar came out again thanked everyone and brought out Brian O'Malley. Some will say Cera is playing Cera again, but as a huge Pilgrim fan, i bought him in the role and didn't think of him as Evan from Superbad, but Scott Pilgrim!

The other film i saw was Mutant Girl Squad, which is the story of a group of girls with powers that transform parts of their bodies, they soon become a terrorist organization, but three of them chose to fight from with in, but may ultimately end up doing what their group had originally planned anyhow. It's one of the most over the top & fun films i've seen in a long time.

I also saw Rocky Horror with the awesome San Diego shadow cast, Crazed Imaginations. The final day was going around the booths a last time, until havign to leave and come back home. On the way though i decided i liek life on the road, so i'm gonna hit the road next year, and take Crackel on tour, which will be going into production with in the next 2 months. Since i've been home however, it's been all the same, but i long for more events like this one, second convention in a year isn't bad though). I did see The Kids Are Alight

It's the story Joni & Lazer(Mia Wasikowska & Josh Hutcherson) 2 kids whoes parents are lesbians, Nic & Jules(Annette Bening & Julianne Moore), and they seak out to find their sperm donor, Paul(Mark Ruffalo). Once he enters their life he becomes a father figure of sorts for the kids, and engages into a sexual relationship with Jules, the family then hits a rocky stage, and everyone has to come to terms with mistakes, and events that have happened. It's a very good little flick, that may be this years Little Miss Juno. Just to await to backlash it'll receive months down the line.
