Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu keeps showing why he is one of the best filmmakers in the world and I e of the most imaginative. While the only film of his I loved was Birdman, I admired everything he has done. Now he has either his best film since Birdman or his worst film over all in Digger. I had a great time with this but it is a cluster at times but constructed with intent. Can't really discuss the plot without spoilers but there are essentially two stories being told here and when story 2 interrupts story 1 it pisses you off because of how bonkers....and dare I say play esque the first story feels. Then once you figure out the narrative of why the film was constructed the way it was it truly makes you realize......this is far from his worst film and it truly is his best since Birdman. It's raw and honest and bleak and hilarious, and Tom Cruise does his best performance since Collateral, hell maybe even Magnolia. This is cinema this is film and Digger dug us out!
