I Used To Be Funny is a film that is very poignant, very depressing and yes, very funny. The subject matter brings upon the poignancy the depression comes as the story unravels but humor....it is a film about stand up comics.....is sprinkled throughout. It shines a light on what is & isn't funny, dated humor and good ol self loathing, but the real heart is the plot. Ally Pankiw is a director to watch, and Rachel Sennott has already impressed in the past, this just cemented her. It's not a coming of age film more than a finding oneself through finding another.
