In recent years Noah Baumbach has gone a bit more serious with his films and eased up on some quirk, with White Noise not only does he bring in the quirk, he also goes fully unhinged. This is by far is weirdest film and so much of it feels random but inherently Noah at the same time. His work with Wes Anderson really rubs off here and what starts off Spielbergian, quicky unravels as he injects some Kubrickian shots, Hitchcockian elements, Lynchian touches and even a hint of Refn. This feels like a few stories meshed together and at times feels more like performance art than a motion picture and by time the film reaches its climax we are in yet another genre. I want Baumbach to continue making films this bonkers in the future!
