Belfast

Sometimes you'll see an indie film then be saddened that the director will be restrained doing an MCU film, such as Chloe Zhao going from Nomadland to Eternals. Other times though you see someone jump back and they wind up doing their most personal film ever. Belfast is easily Kenneth Branagh's most personal film. From the bookended open & close of modern Belfast to the main story in beautiful black and white you can tell he made this his art project. The subject matter of the riots hits home with his upbringing and speaks to modern events. It even shows his main escape in cinema, this is not only a love letter to cinema but to Belfast itself and the loss of innocence.
