Maggie Gyllenhaal definitely shows directing chops with the Lost Daughter but it feels very look at me, give me an award. and thus far the praise is incoming but i feel there'd be more if it wasn't on Netflix. Netflix gets acclaim such as Roma but this feels more art house(as did Roma for that matter) but it actually feels like it could have been an HBO mini series. Fine acting, tight tale, good debut feature. I feel Maggie can get even artsier and push the envelope a bit further with her next.
